This is really fantastic, there's nothing quite like this rendition on RUclips. Really is like Barbara Dane but slower and on a banjo. Most players use a guitar for this and some play ruebens train on banjo which shares a lot of lyrics but they play it fast. This really hits all the boxes for how a slow somber banjo version which fits well for the lyrics. Excellent stuff. What tuning are you in?
Thank you so much. I do plan to record this for a folk album some time soon. I was experimenting with Gm tuning awhile back and was running through the songs I knew that would work well in the tuning. Started working this one out and it came pretty quickly.

Hi! Try alternating which strings you thumb. Seems to create more space for vocals and whatnot.

I once saw them when they did a outdoor concert in Linkoping Sweden at the soldiers veteran home. Honestly they did not do so well though. I believe they mostly where a studio band but I loved that first song they got famous for All that she wants. I first saw it on the Alternative Nation show on MTV which was a little strange. Thanks for this cover was a cool version.

@@KelleySmithMusic Totally...having sustain? Imagine that! I grabbed a resophonic banjo a year ago, and it's teaching me so much about letting things ring. I think traditional clawhammer is all about interrupting notes, and these new clawhammer spaces are about letting them lie. It's something so new for me. Looking forward to more music, Kelley!

Oh yes open tunings are not only for the blues and playing slide.
